30 Years Since the AMIA Bombing: Read Alberto Nisman’s Report Proving Iran’s Guilt
For the 30th anniversary of the Buenos Aires AMIA bombing, read murdered prosecutor’s report proving Iran was behind the anti-Jewish mass slaughter
On July 18, 1994, Iranian-backed Hezbollah agents bombed the AMIA (Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina) Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires, murdering 85 Argentinian citizens, mostly Jews.
Three decades later, read the 674-page investigative report on the bombing issued in 2006 by the Argentinian prosecutor Alberto Nisman, who paid with his life for his courageous efforts to bring justice to the victims and the Jewish community.
Nisman (a Jew) was found murdered in his Buenos Aires apartment on January 19, 2015, just hours before he was scheduled to testify at a hearing about his recent accusations against Argentina’s former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and then-foreign minister Héctor Timmerman. Nisman alleged that they had agreed to cover up Iranian government involvement in the bombing in exchange for a trade deal.
In 2009, JLP president Dr. Charles Jacobs interviewed Nisman for Boston’s Jewish Advocate and was given an English copy of the report. APT first released it on January 28, 2015, just nine days after Nisman was found dead.
On the original press release, Jacobs said, “[Nisman] is an historic figure, a Jewish hero. The Jewish community and all decent people will never forget this act of terror, nor will we forget our hero, Alberto Nisman.”
On the 30th anniversary, however, Alberto’s legacy is being honored. Argentina’s new Zionist president Javier Milei paid true and welcome respect to the bombing’s victims at a remembrance ceremony and vowed to stand tall to protect Jews.
Milei has designated Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, demanded that the government pay special attention to defending Jews, and recommended that the bombing’s architects be tried in absentia.
We hope that Alberto Nisman’s courageous work is now coming to fruition as Argentina moves in a new direction towards embrace of liberty and Zionism.
